Built for People Who Want More From Their Fitness

CrossFit Ares was created for adults who are done with quick fixes and ready to take control of their health for the long run. We believe fitness should support your life, not compete with it.

That means training with purpose, staying consistent through real-world challenges, and building strength you can rely on for decades.

I purchased CrossFit Ares in 2021 after working as a construction superintendent for 8 years in Boston. He had a passion for helping people and experienced firsthand what high-stress corporate work and life can do to one’s physical and mental health. That all changed when he found CrossFit, which helped him through one of the most challenging times in his life. Learning that fitness isn’t about going to the gym and checking the box, it is about learning to move better and creating an atmosphere that prioritizes long-term health and longevity. I don’t want to be the person who can’t enjoy life when they get older, and I don’t want any of my members to be that person either.

My turning point was when I was working my previous construction career down in Washington DC, away from my family and friends, and doing something I did not enjoy. I had the feeling that there was more for me, and it brought me to one of the lowest points in my life. I found CrossFit at that point. I began to understand the importance of health and fitness as a whole. Not just to look better, but to benefit my life in its entirety to be the best person I could be.

We live in a world that takes away the most important thing the world, who we are as human being. We let stresses and outside sources dictate that to us. We are all unique and all have the ability to be the best versions of ourselves. All it takes is one small pivot in a different direction, and our destination changes completely. We deserve the best version of ourselves and the journey to finding that day after day.

I started CrossFit at the age of 29 with the goals of losing weight and getting stronger. What I soon learned was that CrossFit can give you so much more than that. After high school I was in and out of the gym for years; gaining weight, losing weight, being focused, and losing focus. I was all over the place. Starting CrossFit allowed me to create focus and passion, and it truly saved my life. Ten years later I am helping people lose weight, get stronger, build confidence, and truly learn the cool stuff our bodies are capable of doing.

As a coach, I hope to help people realize their potential with not just fitness but with everything they strive to do.

I’ve been coaching in the CrossFit space for just over a year but I’ve been working in athletic performance and coaching for NRHS football for the last 5 years. After being involved in track, lacrosse, and football during my high school years I played a year of football at Springfield College and then transitioned into coaching.

After switching majors and transferring colleges I was not sure what it was that I wanted. Being around sports and athletics had always been a passion of mine but through coaching, I was able to find something in CrossFit that allows you to stay healthy and still exercise with the intensity that comes from team sports with CrossFit classes. After my first class, I was hooked and knew that I needed to be involved in this in whatever capacity I could.

From my experience working with age ranges of elementary school masters athletes, the common denominator in all of it is my passion for improving people’s lives. When coaching, my first and most important goal is to make the athlete’s/members’ quality of life better. Whether that comes from pushing you to up the intensity in the gym or talking about what’s going on at home and being an outlet for that, I’m looking for whatever it takes to give you a better, healthier, happier life

I joined CrossFit Ares as a member in April of 2022 with the help of some much needed motivation from those close to me. I quickly fell in love with this community, and everything that it stands for. Coming off of over a decade in the restaurant industry and now my third year as a real estate agent, meeting and talking to people has always been more of a job. I feel incredibly lucky to have found a place I can truly be myself and meet great people!

I had picked up a lot of bad lifestyle habits from the years working in restaurants, and I took those bad habits into a much less active job as a real estate agent. Eventually I just reached a point where it was clear I was falling so far short of what I’m capable of, and I was letting down people who sees about me. I went into this gym with a singular goal of just being better than I was yesterday, but the journey has led me to accomplish things I sincerely thought I would never be capable of.

‍One thing you learn pretty quickly in life is that absolutely everyone is going through something – life is full of stresses. But we always have a choice on how we respond to them. I spent a long time choosing to do all the wrong things when life got hard. Crossfit saved me from myself, and helped me not only improve my mental and physical health, it became infectious to see hard work pay off in this real tangible way, and even more infectious to celebrate the successes of those around you. I’m motivated by each and every person that walks through that door with the goal of bettering themselves. I want to help with that journey.

Hi, I’m Katie, I work as an estimating coordinator in construction and have been waitressing on the side for the last 4 years. I came across the gym back in 2020 one day while picking up my younger sister from CrossFit. Not really knowing what “CrossFit” was, I walked into the gym and was immediately welcomed with open arms. “So what do you guys do here?” From the sweat, smiles, and music I never wanted to join something quicker. Have fun while working out?! Never looked back. A pivotal moment arrived when I embraced CrossFit. I found a community that reshaped my purpose. The journey from personal gains to helping others was transformative. Given this new opportunity to do so, I could not say no. From the gym life beyond, my commitment extends to empowering others around me. CrossFit isn’t just about my growth; it’s about nurturing a community where everyone thrives. When life was tough, CrossFit lifted me up. It wasn’t just exercise – it was my way out. It helped me find strength when I felt weak. It turned my life around. Crossfit showed me that even in hard times, I could find a way up. Witnessing the positive impact of support and encouragement within the community ignited a new passion – to uplift and motivate others. We sweat, struggle, and celebrate together.

Eric Jacobs

I started doing CrossFit as a way to maintain my fitness level for hockey/baseball and as my interest level grew so did the spark to research becoming a coach. I’ve held multiple certifications, including CrossFit L1, CrossFit L2, and specialties in CrossFit Gymnastics/Strongman/Movement and Mobility. I have a BS in Kinesiology from JMU and MS in Exercise Physiology from Florida State University. I’m currently an Exercise Physiologist at Boston Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehab program.

CrossFit for most of my life has really given me the strength and confidence to excel at sports, but my mindset has been starting to shift recently for long term health and wellness. Through my experiences I hope to give back the knowledge I have learned over the past 10+ years to CrossFit Ares and help our members reach their goals.

My current background in Cardiac Rehabilitation has given me motivation to return to coaching and apply its concepts/strategies to our CrossFit Ares members. Exercise is a lifetime activity and the benefits of exercise far outweigh the negatives long term. It’s important to have an understanding about how the aging process works and how we can put ourselves in good positions to succeed down the road.
